Tata working on ultra-green 'air car'

A car that runs on air and releases no pollutants into the atmosphere at low speeds could be offered for sale in India as soon as this year.

The three-seater fibreglass OneCAT weighs just 350kg and is expected to be priced at about £2,500. The technology under its bonnet is backed by Tata, the Indian conglomerate that sent a shockwave through the auto industry last month when it unveiled the world's cheapest car, the £1,250 Nano.

Refuelling involves topping-up on compressed air, which is used to power the OneCAT's piston engine. In a couple of minutes - and at a cost of as little as £1 - the vehicle is ready to travel another 200 to 300 kilometres, its inventors say.

The vehicle, which burns small amounts of conventional fuels at higher speeds, has been developed by Moteur Development International (MDI), a French-based, family-owned group that has been working on a roadworthy "air car" for the past decade.

Death by Car Bomb in Damascus

Her lone misstep was a passage where she tried to tackle the issue of her likeability. She said:

Part of what this campaign is coming down to is a recognition that we need to know, as specifically as possible, what our next president intends to do. We don't need a leap of faith. We don't need to have a beer with the next president. We have that president. Although, you know, I'd be happy to have a beer, too . . .

Uh, sure.

Sami Lukis can't get a bloke

She is heading back to her home town, Brisbane.

And this afternoon she told Sydney Confidential the real reason why.

Like so many girls in Sydney, she has found it hard to find a man to settle down with.

And now, she says, it's time to put her personal life first and career second.

Are you a girl who can't get a bloke in Sydney - or a bloke with a theory why so many girls are dateless? Tell us below.

"For fifteen years I have been focussing on my career and maybe I have spent too much time doing that," she said.

"Maybe that's why I have not met a bloke yet."

Lukis' past dating adventures include a disastrous set-up by her brekkie show pals Merrick and Rosso - hear about it by clicking here - and a relationship with businessman Anthony Bell, who recently found new love.

Homes blend eco-friendliness, unique design

Theres been quite a buzz around town lately about energy and water conservation practices, and for years so-called green building has been a hit.
However a few homes in Truckee were built eco-friendly, not just to save heat and money, but because theyre just plain interesting.

One with the Earth
Sue and Jeff Cauhape have been living in their Tahoe Donner, earth berm home for 12 years. The couple maintains that, despite being for-the-most-part covered in dirt, their home is very bright and inviting.
Its not dark inside at all; we were surprised by how much light there was, Sue Cauhape said. We tried to sell it for two years, but I dont think a lot of people get the concept. Its odd, but weve been very comfortable here.
Comfort inside the home can be attributed to its thermal mass the walls absorb and retain heat, so the house requires neither heater nor air conditioner.

Police grab tagger with an eye for utility poles

A prolific 31-year-old tagger was arrested Thursday, Jan. 31, and hit with nearly three dozen criminal mischief charges in connection with graffiti nailed to utility poles across the city.

Ryan Wendell Birkland was arrested by officers from Portland Police Bureau's Central Precinct Neighborhood Response Team.

The graffiti began showing up on Portland General Electric poles several months ago. A similar style of graffiti resulted in $12,000 worth of damages to the Sherwood Field Water Tank in Washington Park.

During the investigation, Officer Matt Miller, the bureau's graffiti investigator, received several tips about the graffiti that lead officers to Gallery 19, 1339 N.W. 19th Ave. Similar graffiti could be seen through the gallery's windows on display inside the building.

Myanmar Voting Dates Win Few Plaudits

The official announcements late Saturday of the constitutional referendum and the election were the first moves by the junta to set dates for stages of its so-called road map to democracy.

"The time has now come to change from military rule to democratic civilian rule," said the announcement for the 2010 polls, broadcast on state TV and radio.

But critics claim the long-delayed road map is designed to perpetuate military rule, not promote democracy. And at tea shops in Yangon, where morning news and gossip is traditionally exchanged, many seemed unimpressed with the developments.

"I am not interested in their referendum because the results are known already," said 48-year old noodle salad seller Mar Mar Aye, echoing the popular belief that the government is confident its constitution will be approved.
